Nursery and early-years roles for the youngest children, from EYFS practitioners to early-years assistants.
Teaching assistants, cover supervisors, learning mentors and pastoral staff supporting classrooms day to day.

It’s a fairly even split – around 55% are academies or free schools and the rest stay council-maintained. As supply you’ll move between both, which keeps the work varied: different structures, policies and daily routines rather than one single model across every booking.
Calderdale’s rate of unfilled posts runs a little below the national average, but with 101 schools across the area there’s still steady day-to-day and long-term supply work – particularly in secondary and specialist settings, where cover needs tend to be more consistent.
Yes – unlike most of the area, Calderdale still has 2 selective (grammar) schools, alongside its comprehensive and academy schools. Most supply bookings are in the non-selective schools, but the grammars add variety – and your consultant will tell you what to expect in each.
