Year 1/2 Primary Teacher

We are recruiting a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic Year 1/2 Class Teacher for a full-time, long-term teaching opportunity at a primary school in Barnsley town centre. The successful candidate will take full classroom responsibility for a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class, delivering high-quality teaching and learning across the Key Stage 1 curriculum. About the Year 1/2 Teaching RoleAs the Year 1/2 Class Teacher, you will have full responsibility for the day-to-day running of your classroom. You will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of pupils across both year groups, ensuring that children of varying abilities are supported and challenged appropriately.

You will be responsible for creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment where pupils feel safe, supported and motivated to learn. Working collaboratively with the wider school team, you will monitor progress, assess learning and implement effective teaching strategies to help every child achieve their potential.

This role requires a teacher who is confident managing a mixed-age class and understands the importance of adapting lessons to meet the different learning objectives and developmental needs of Year 1 and Year 2 pupils.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full classroom responsibility for a mixed Year 1/Year 2 class.
• Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lessons in line with the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum.
• Differentiate teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of pupils across both year groups.
• Deliver engaging lessons in English, mathematics, phonics and other areas of the primary curriculum.
• Support pupils’ progress in reading, writing, mathematics and wider learning.
• Assess, record and monitor pupil attainment and progress.
• Establish clear expectations and maintain effective classroom and behaviour management.
• Create a stimulating, safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Support pupils’ social, emotional and academic development.
• Work effectively with teaching assistants, colleagues and school leadership.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to the wider life of the school.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.

Essential RequirementsThe ideal candidate will be a motivated and adaptable primary teacher with a strong understanding of Key Stage 1 teaching and learning.
Applicants should have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience teaching within a primary school setting.
• A strong understanding of the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum.
• Confidence teaching a mixed Year 1/Year 2 class, or the ability to adapt effectively to mixed-age teaching.
• Strong knowledge of early reading, phonics, writing and mathematics.
• Effective lesson planning, differentiation and assessment skills.
• Excellent classroom and behaviour management.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A commitment to raising attainment and supporting every pupil’s development.

Pay, Benefits and Contract Details

• Competitive daily pay: £155–£180 per day, depending on experience.
• Pay progression: Paid to the applicable scale after 12 working weeks, subject to eligibility and the relevant terms.
• Full-time hours: Monday to Friday during the school week.
