Many schools throughout the northwest have been advised against re-opening today, due to an increase in the infection rate, known as the R number, of Covid-19.
The rate nationally for the R number needed to be under 1 for lockdown measures to be eased, but in the north west, it is 1.01 and in the southwest it is 1.0. Matt Hancock inferred on Friday, that regionally managed lockdown measures would be needed to manage outbreaks.
Lancashire schools are delaying opening schools until data indicates the R number is less than one, with Cumbria schools also being mindful of premature school openings.
