Inclusion Support Worker – Full time – Wakefield

 

We are looking to appoint an Inclusion Support Worker to work across a Multi Academy Trust of Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and Alternative Provision settings across Wakefield.

 

The trust consists of 3 settings which are located across Wakefield and cater for young people aged 5-19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, who are unable to access mainstream education due to their needs.

We are seeking an experienced Inclusion Support Worker, with a sound understanding of meeting the SEMH needs of young people, and who can provide consistency across several settings.

 

The role will involve:

  • Supporting the delivery of learning, participating in whole planning cycle, implementation of work programmes, evaluation and record keeping
  • Assisting in the implementation of support programmes for pupils attending a PRU provision
  • Identifying and promoting positive behavioural change in children experiencing ESBD and facilitate their inclusion in the community of the group/school
  • Working co-operatively with staff to enable pupils to access a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum, including the National Curriculum
  • Building supportive relationships with parents and other agencies to promote effective working between parents, schools, and support agencies
  • Working with pupils who have experienced significant problems in relation to their education.  These young people may have been excluded or have had difficulties in the school environment

 

You will provide pastoral support to pupils, receive and supervise pupils excluded from, or otherwise not working to, a normal timetable, and attend to pupils’ personal needs and provide advice to assist in their social, health & hygiene development, and participate in comprehensive assessment of pupils to determine those in need of particular help.

 

This role involves working with vulnerable young people with complex needs, and as such may exhibit extremely challenging behavior including verbal and physical aggression. It is therefore vital that any individual applying for this role is resilient, and able to de-escalate pupils at risk of reaching crisis. Training in Positive Handling Strategies such as Team Teach, MAPA or Studio 3 would be beneficial, although not essential as training can be made available.
