On Tuesday Provide Education supported St Mary’s Academy Trust and Sheffield Steelers with their Ball Hockey tournament as part of the Steelers in the community project. The day was absolutely fantastic with excited children from all seven trust schools and Holy Trinity - who entered a team as they very kindly allowed us to use their all weather pitch.
This tournament was a culmination of months of training for the children, who had been coached by the Sheffield Steelers in the build up to the event.
The day went really well with the rain holding off and fantastic fun was had by all! Three players were in attendance; Zack Fitzgerald who has played in the NHL, Tyler Mosienko who has played in the top leagues across Europe and young prospect Cole Shudra who has not long left school himself but is a bright star for the future. Cole being there was great for the kids as they got to see that it is possible to make it in Hockey even as a young Brit. In addition to the players the club mascot Steeler Dan was in attendance, which the children loved and so did he!
On the day West Meadows came out triumphant, but all the children will have memories that will last a lifetime and that is priceless. The MVP’s for each team left with a prize of a Steelers hoody and cap. Everybody that played received a Steelers goody bag and left with a big smile on their faces.
Our very own Senior Branch Consultant Darren Artley was refereeing some of the games and was very complimentary of the children’s behavior (although some of the teachers got very competitive).
Well done to everyone and we are very proud to be partners with all involved!”
